Podcast The Peel: Ep. 5 – Matt Gooch

On this week’s episode of The Peel, we talk to Matt Gooch.

Matt talks about growing up in California, then moving to Idaho Falls in high school. He talks about how he started playing drums, his love for jazz music and playing with local jazz musicians in Rexburg.

Matt also shares a very funny story involving some timpanis.

After playing in the local rock band Clay Temples, Matt played in the experimental group Kilamantra.

Matt now has a new project called Atomic City, with local guitar player Craig Green, and drummer Liam O’Neil. They have one live track that they recorded at The Basement, but have not released yet. They hope to record more and release a full album next year.

After the interview, Matt and I talked about drummers in the area. Matt mentioned that more local bands need to spend money on quality sounding gear.

“When going to a local show one of the worst sounds to hear is a bad hi-hat,” Matt said. “So all the drummers out there get better hi-hats!”
