Fans of the band Carry on, Kid saw familiar faces on stage at The Basement Wednesday night covering Weezer.
The band ’05 covered songs “Beverly Hills,” “Perfect Situation,” “My Name is Jonas,” “Say It Ain’t So,” “Pork and Beans” and “Undone – The Sweater Song.”
The band featured Matt Smith on vocals and guitar, as well as Carry on, Kid members Christian Anderson on guitar, Cameron White on bass and Curtis Gough on drums.
“’05” refers to a time in music these artists draw influence from. Growing up in the 2000s, Weezer was a major influence for them, so it was a natural first pick to cover.
’05 will cover a new band at every show. The idea of a cover band was born during the final session of Carry on, Kid.
Anderson and White improvised the dialogue parts of “Undone – The Sweater Song.” The crowd bounced to the music and sang along in a tribute to Weezer.
Mount Vernon, Illinois-based As We Are and local Rexburg band Poor Sports played before ’05.
Future setlists will include covers of Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco and other bands from the 2000s that influenced them.
